A violent patient who was under the influence of drink and drugs at Warrington Hospital has been arrested after kicking and biting security staff.

Two police officers who attended at the hospital to assist security staff were also assaulted.

When officers arrived at the scene the security staff had detained the male on the floor, after two of them had been assaulted. One of them had been bitten and the other was kicked several times.

Officers handcuffed the male who was then moved to a bed to receive treatment. The male calmed down but once again became violent.

While being restrained, he managed to kick one of the officers in the head as well as spitting at them.

Once discharged by the hospital, officers conveyed him to custody. Once removed from the police van, it was clear that the male had caused damage inside the van cell.

The male was arrested for a total of: two assaults on hospital security staff, two assaults on police officers and criminal damage to the police vehicle.

He has now been lodged in custody to sober up and will be interviewed later today.
