A CHARITY that supports people with learning difficulties has created a garden that is an oasis of traquility in Warrington’s Victoria Park.

MacIntyre’s New Routes garden project is growing seasonal organic vegetables, fruit, plants, herbs and handmade garden projects in a garden area behind the Spirit Restaurant.

It is open to the public between 10am-3pm Monday to Friday.

Seasonal organic plants, fruit, vegetables and herbs will be on sale later in the year providing high quality ,affordable produce to visitors. Several exciting events are planned throughout the year including a celebration of National Apple day in the Autumn.

MacIntyre life-long learning in Warrington has three main projects – the gardening project, an adult learning centre and a community cafe.

The non-profit making charity provides a wide range of opportunities for people who have learning difficulties to experience and gain both horticultural and life skills. But it relies on the support of the community to buy produce and plants.

The two acre site holds a large orchard containing different varieties of old Cheshire apples, and other fruits, and a large poly tunnel and growing areas allow the production of organic vegetables.

The learning centre is situated in the Orford hub, Festival Avenue and provides a wide range of learning and vocational opportunities based on daily living skills, health and wellbeing, independence and is a registered Duke of Edinburgh Centre.

Users can access learning activities that include yoga, computer skills, cookery, pottery, dance and movement, sewing, sports and many more.

The Old School Dining Room is another part of the life-long learning division within MacIntyre and its aim is to provide training, work experience and qualifications for the people supported in order for people to reach their goals and find employment opportunities.

The premises offer a relaxing atmosphere where you can unwind and enjoy homemade, healthy and affordable menu choices.

It is open Mon-Thursday 9am-4pm Friday 9am – 3 pm.

The diner also provides outside catering, and for details email [email protected] or 01925 415525
