Acclaimed Crime Writer, Martin Edwards produced an fascinating presentation about author life at Penketh Library.

Martin has been a mainstay in the crime-writing field for over 25 years.  His first novel, ‘All the Lonely People’, published in 1991 received a nomination for the John Creasey Memorial Dagger for best first crime novel of the year.  Since then Martin, who is a graduate of Oxford University, has written extensively in every area of crime writing and has gone on to have over 30 crime-fiction novels published.  These include the excellent Harry Devlin and Lake District series in which he skilfully marries people and place with plot.

Born in Knutsford, Martin now lives in Lymm with his wife and family.   He is chairman of the Crime Writers’ Association, eighth president of the Detection Club and is also archivist of both the CWA and the Detection Club. Alongside this, he has had a distinguished career in law, described in 2016 by The Legal 500 as “first class”. He was again recognised as one of the leading lawyers in his field in the 2017 and 2018 directories of Chambers; the former described him as “a fantastic employment lawyer.”

The audience were on the edge of their seats as they heard how Martin’s love of reading as a young boy inspired him to become the successful crime writer he is today.  With his relaxed, easy style he delivered an excellent talk that was a real mix of information and humour.

One of the comments we received at the end of the evening summed it up perfectly

“A very stimulating, interesting and entertaining delivery; beautifully delivered and very articulate. It was much appreciated how open the talk was and how Martin shared his life, experiences and thoughts.”

LiveWire’s Strategic Library Manager, Wendy Molyneux, confirmed the evening’s success by saying “We were thrilled to welcome Martin Edwards at Penketh Library. We thought we would be in for an exciting evening and we weren’t disappointed.  Martin captured the audience’s attention from start to finish with fascinating and insightful tales of his life of crime and we hope he will be able to visit us again in the future”.
