WARRINGTON Town bounced back from their FA Trophy exit at the weekend with a 3-1 win away at a snowy Matlock Town.
Joe Piggott, who scored with his first touch on Saturday, scored a first half brace on his first start for the club, and Brad Barnes’ second half strike gave the Yellows a bit of breathing space.
They managed to see out the game despite a red card for striker Tony Gray in the final quarter.
Matlock took the lead inside the first six minutes through Lee Bennett, but it took less than two minutes for Piggott to restore parity.
The recent signing from Dundee United added his second to make it 2-1 at half time.
Barnes’ 20-yard strike after the break consolidates the Yellows’ play-off position ahead of a tricky run of league games as the fixtures pile-up following their cup exploits.
They are scheduled to face Winsford United in the Cheshire Senior Cup tomorrow (Wednesday), before a trip to Sutton Coldfield United in the league on Saturday.
