DETECTIVES have renewed their appeal for information after a 35-year-old man was left in a critical condition after being attacked by a gang of youths in Sankey Valley Park yesterday afternoon.

The victim, who is from the local area, was attacked by a group of around six teenage boys in Sankey Valley Park at around 4.20pm on Wednesday 24 January.

He sustained serious injuries and is currently in a critical but stable condition at The Walton Centre in Liverpool.

Following the assault in the park area behind Weddell Close, the six youths fled the scene along the canal path towards the bridge near Ledyard Close.

Police believe that three of the teenagers were on bicycles and three of them were on foot.

Four of them were described as wearing black tracksuits with two of them wearing grey ones.

Detective Sergeant Dave Aspinall said: “We have stepped up patrols in the area, but at this stage it appears this was an isolated incident.

“We are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what happened and catch those responsible.

“If you were in the park at the time of the incident and saw what happened then please get in touch.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw youths matching the description either before or after the incident or believes they may know who the teenagers are.

“Perhaps you have a business in the area with CCTV footage that day showing some teenagers on bikes and some on foot.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area of Sankey Valley Park and the roads surrounding it between 2pm and 6pm and has dashcam footage that may help with our investigation.

“Anyone with information that could be of use to us should call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 605 of 24 January.

“Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police remain in the area to provide reassurance to the local community. Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.
