A YEAR 10 student at Warrington’s Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School is one of only 14 Seat Cadets in the UK to be awarded a Royal Naval Flying scholarship.
This is a first for the North West and in March Ruth Hendry will train for a week in Yeovil where most pilots receive their training.
Her commanding officer, Lt (SCC) Anthony Gleave said: “Ruth is a very determined and driven young lady.  She is an outstanding individual with a real passion for the cadets”.
Ruth is also a member of Boteler’s Youth Health Council.
She hopes to progress into the Royal Navy, is very interested in a career within the Fleet Air Arm – and the scholarship will help pave the way for her.
This scholarship will pave the way for her to achieve her dreams.
Mrs Andrea Savage, progress leader for Year 10 said: “We wish Ruth every success in March so that she continues on a career path of her choosing.  Until then she is working hard in all her lessons towards achieving her GCSEs next year.”
