Planners to take second look at flats proposal

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to convert a disused church into 10 apartments is to come before Warrington planning chiefs for a second time.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee will consider the application to convert Hope Church, in Crosfield Street, after visiting the site.
The application was deferred for further information after nearby residents and ward councillors Tom Jennings and Sarah Hall lodged objections.
The church is said to have been built in 1981 but has not been used since 2015. It is not listed and is in good structural conditions.
But nearby residents said Crosfield Street already suffers from chronic parking problems and that an additional 10 homes – possibly bringing with them 20 cars – will worsen the situation. They also believe the apartments will be very small and that the development would lead to a loss of privacy for existing residents.
They believe no more than five apartments could be accommodated on the site.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
