Playground “umbrellas” approved

A PRE-SCHOOL group at Warrington has won planning consent to erect two fixed “umbrella” structures on its playground to provide shade in the summer and shelter on wet days.
The borough council’s development management committee agreed to the proposals put forward by the Little Learners pre-school at the Callands Centre, Callands.
The structures will measure 4m x 4m when fully extended and will have an overall height of 3.8m.
Planning officers said the structures would have minimal visual impact outside the site, which is a hard-covered playground but recommended the scheme be approved for a period of 10 years only, as the structures involved could deteriorate over time.  The committee agreed.
