A top speed of 57mph was recorded in a 40mph zone on an icy road.

Those stopped included several local drivers.

Earlier in the day police appealed to motorists to slow down due to the icy conditions with reports of a number of collisions caused by tailgating.

  1. Some drivers are just plain STUPID. I walked to work today because the roads round here were so icy as were the pavements but still I saw idiot drivers flying along, presumably oblivious to the dangers, with no care or fear of what might happen. I guess they all presume that the seemingly ‘main’ road round our way that they all use as a cut through etc gets gritted but NO IT DOESN’T.
The council really do need to add it to their main gritting route but for years people have tried to no avail. I wouldn’t mind but over the past few weeks I’ve seen their gritters driving down it to get to their ‘allocated’ primary gritting roads. Surely the drivers could report back and say “HEY THIS ROAD DEFFO NEEDS DOING TOO or maybe just take some initiative themselves and maybe drop a little grit along the route !!
