CAMPAIGNERS opposing the proposed Western Link Road are organising an awareness Walk through Sankey Valley Park this Saturday (December 30).

The four mile walk through the park is being organised by Communities United Against the warrington Wesrtern Link who are opposing Warrington Borough Council’s plans to build a new link road between Walton and Great Sankey.

To join the four mile round trip linear walk through Sankey Valley Park, along Sankey Canal and on to the Trans Pennine Trail members of the public are invited to meet at Waterways car park at 10.30 am.

Cindy Maguire organiser of the walk said: “It will show walkers the route the Warrington Western Link could take and the devastating effect it will have on our green space and local community”.

A large swathe of Sankey Valley Park and sections of theTrans Pennine Trail will disappear under concrete, along with other green spaces such as Morley Common and Moore Nature Reserve, if the Warrington Western Link road is given the go ahead.

The walk, which will also see members of protest groups from across Warrington join forces, is described as an easy walk suitable for adults, children, toddlers in buggies and dogs, and anyone joining is free to bring refreshments for a short break in the Memorial Forest, Mersey Meadow.

Further details of the walk and the group’s activities can be found on their facebook page or by e mailing [email protected]
