TRIBUTES are flooding social media following the death of Mr Smith’s legend “Stan the Man.”

Popular Penketh pensioner Stan Knowles became a legend at the former Mr Smith’s nightclub during the 1980s and 90s as the “oldest dancer in town.”

He had his own facebook page with nearly 10,000 followers.

A post last night (Friday) on the page dedicated to him reported “It is with a heavy heart I have to inform you that today we sadly lost our very much loved Stan the Man. Rest in Peace Stan.”

Stan had celebrated his 90th birthday in September.

During his “younger” days he was often the life and soul of the party at the Mr Smith’s nightclub in Warrington.

Hundreds of people are leaving comments and tributes to Stan, who strutted his stuff until he was 82, when he opted for a quiter lifestyle due to arthritis in his knees.
