Yellows thrashed by promotion rivals

WARRINGTON Town were brought back down to earth as they were thrashed 5-0 at Shaw Lane.

Following their impressive midweek FA Trophy victory over National League North side Tamworth, second placed Warrington travelled to Yorkshire with confidence.

But they were humbled by five unanswered goals, the second time the Yellows have been hit for five this season, having lost 5-1 at home to Stourbridge, also fancied to be a promotion contender, back in September.

It was 3-0 by half time, goals coming from Chib Chilaka, David Norris and Paul Clayton.

The embarrassment didn’t stop there, as Spencer Harris and Alex Byrne added second half goals, the latter coming from a rebound after Tony McMillan had saved his penalty.

Warrington ended a miserable afternoon with 10 men after Jack Higgins was given a straight red for a two footed tackle on Clayton.

The Yellows will attempt to bounce back at home to Stalybridge next Saturday at Cantilever Park (3pm).
