Eight compete for “comedian of the year” title

EIGHT comedians will compete for the title “Albion Comedian of the Year” at Warrington’s Albion pub on Wednesday, November 29.
The Battersby Lane pub is holding the grant final of their search to find the comedian of the year and the eight comics appearing on the night have won through against stiff competition from more than 50 comedians who have appeared since last February.
Audiences have chosen the winner each month – and each winner has won a cash prize as well as going thrugh to the final.
The eight acts are Mike Carter, Kevin Caswell-Jones, Sarah Keegan, Roland Gent, Barrie Heap, Howard Anstock, Jon Capewel and Tony & Jeff.
They will each perform once more to the Albion audience and three judges Kenny Mills (compere), businessman and comedian Craig Bennett,and comedian and promotor David Appleton.The winner on the night will walk away with a glass trophy, cash prize and get to perform as headline comedian at The Albion next year.
Also on the night, the search to find Warrington’s new comedian for 2018 will be launched.
Promotor David Appleton said: “Warrington has been blessed with an abundance of local comedians; many can be found performing at The Albion as well as other venues in the town and across the North West and we aim to give even more their break on to the comedy circuit and hopefully appear at next year’s grand final”.

The Albion is Warrington’s longest established comedy venue.
