LATCHFORD Albion loose forward Danny Brown made his representative debut for Lancashire at the weekend in the Tri-Counties tournament.
Despite being on the losing side – the Red Rose county went down 14-10 – Danny’s performance was impressive.
His achievement in being selected was made all the more special by the fact that the squad is predominantly made up from National Conference players with Danny being one of only two North West Counties players in the side.
Next Saturday, Danny has been shortlisted for the Warrington RL Man of Steel award – the first time the award has been open to open age players.
Danny has been with Latchford since he was a junior and is a one club man. Despite having had offers from both semi-professional and National Conference sides, he has always stayed loyal to Albion.
His honours list is extensive. He is the current player’s player of the year at Latchford, an award he has previously won on three separate occasions and has been voted forward of the year.
Representative honours have become common. In 2014, Danny was selected as loose forward for the English Lionhearts tour to Canada where he featured in both test matches.
This feat was repeated in 2015, when he toured Serbia, again being selected for both test games.
Last year, he was at the forefront of Albion’s successful season, securing promotion to the North West Men’s League Premier Division.
Next year will see Danny gain further international honours with a test match series against Russia to look forward to, as well as playing a pivotal part in Albion’s challenge for the premier division trophy.
Latchford coach Lee Smith said: “Danny is every coach’s dream. He leads from the front and his commitment and ability are an example to all.
All the honours accrued are a fine testament to how Danny plays week in, week out.
“His high level of consistency and constant challenges to improve all aspects of his game have reaped the rewards and I couldn’t be more proud of him as a player, and also a person, with the accolades he is rightly receiving“
