Residents urged to engage over Post Office relocation plans

PEOPLE living in Burtonwood are being urged to have their say on plans to relocate the Chapel Lane Post Office to the nearby public library.

Post Office Limited has started  a six-week consultation on proposals to accommodate the branch within the nearby public library.

Question marks have been hanging over the future of thousands of rural post offices since the government announced that it would cease to subsidise the network from March 2018. Co-location within the library is expected to secure the future in the village of both facilities.

Cllr Terry O’Neill, council leader and representative for Burtonwood said: “It’s vital that we hang on to our post office here in Burtonwood and that local residents continue to receive the same level of service.

“I am assured that there will be no reduction in opening hours, no reduction in key services and improved accessibility with car parking, access ramp, wide door and open plan layout.

“My own view is that moving the post office into the library is the best way to secure the future of both of these vital community facilities but anybody with an interest in Burtonwood Post Office, especially existing customers, should make their views known.”

Residents can share their views online at postofficeviews.co.uk (enter branch code 15843499), via email to by email to [email protected] or by telephoning 03452 66 01 15.

The consultation closes on 5 December 2017 and any changes would come into effect during spring 2018.
