MP HELEN Jones is encouraging people to become involved in UK Parliament week.

UK Parliament week hosts a programme of events which aims to foster closer engagement between the public and Parliament.

This year Parliament week takes place from November 13-19 and will be in its seventh year. There are activities, exhibitions, workshops and discussions across the country that explore what the UK Parliament means to individuals and local communities and empower them to get involved.

The Warrington North MP features in a podcast entitled Parliament Explained which  explains what Parliament is, how it scrutinises the work of Government, and how people can get involved.  It is introduced by actor and comedian, Meera Syal and features Ms Jones in her role as chairman of the House of Commons Petitions Select Committee, Baroness Corston, chairman of the House of Lords Social Mobility Select Committee and staff from both the House of Lords and House of Commons.  Every episode can be downloaded for free at www.parliament.uk/parliamentexplained

Ms Jones said: “This year Parliament Week is on track to reach over 300,000 people across the country who will explore what Parliament means to them and their communities.

“ There are already 10 events taking place in Warrington North and I would encourage more people and groups to become involved. It’s not too late. Whether you want to take part in a discussion, join a local walk, find out how you can make your voice heard or simply take part in the conversation online, Parliament Week provides a way for you to become involved.

“ A full list of events and activities and further information can be found at www.ukparliamentweek.org  ”

  1. Observation one. Why don’t Meera Syal and Ms Jones do a job swap. Meera couldn’t possibly do a worse job and Ms Jones is undoubtedly a good actress and could easily turn her hand to comedy. Observation two. Just how tall is that door?
