A happy life could be the secret to a long life as Mary Miller celebrated her 100th birthday with a cream tea with family and friends at Stockton Heath Methodist Church Hall.

Mary, of Hawthorne Road, Stockton Heath, who was joined by her two sons John and Stephen, has been a regular at the church for most of her life.

She married her late husband Norman at the church, which she started visiting as a 17-year-old local girl.

Reflecting on her life Mary, who has been a widow for 23 years, said: “Sadly my husband died too soon – but I have had a happy life.”

She used to work as a telephonist at the Post office until son John was born in 1949.

She was joined by her sons and family and friends to celebrate her birthday with a special cream tea in the church hall.
