Big clean-up planned for historic canal

VOLUNTEERS will be taking part in a big clean up at Bewsey Lock, on the historic Sankey Canal at Warrington on Sunday.
The events has been organised by the Sankey Canal Restoration Society (SCARS)and will take place from 10am-4pm, in collaboration with Warrington Borough Council and the Waterway Recovery Group NW, who will be bringing some of their skilled restoration workforce, as the restoration arm of the Inland Waterways Association.
The plan is to remove small trees and other overgrown vegetation from the lock and along the canal-side at Bewsey. Anyone who wants to get involved will be welcome.
SCARS chairman Dave Smallshaw said: “No experience necessary – just old clothes, sturdy footwear, gloves if you have them, and enthusiasm!”
