Libraries to host a week of special activities

LIBRARIES across Warrington will be hosting a range of activities from October 9-14 as part of Libraries Week.
The annual event is celebrated nationally, with libraries up and down the country showcasing all of the creative, innovative and diverse activities they have to offer.
As part of the celebrations, Warrington’s library operator, LiveWire, will be launching a brand new initiative – Ask a Librarian – which will give library users the chance to ask a professional librarian a specific information query that they are struggling to answer.
A member of the community library team will be visiting different libraries across the borough each day and, going forward, will offer follow-up sessions once a month at one of LiveWire’s libraries.
Wendy Molyneux, strategic library manager at LiveWire, said: “We’re really excited to be launching this new initiative during Libraries Week.
“In the world of search engines and websites some people have questioned the future of libraries and librarians; Google may have 100,000 answers but we want to show people that librarians can help them find the right one.”
The newly launched Friends of Penketh Library (FOPL) group will also be joining in with the celebrations.
On the morning of Saturday October 7 they will be hiding pebbles with the title of a recommended read on them at Greystone Recreation Ground in Penketh.
The group will also deliver a mini story and rhyme time session and a discussion of “The Love Song by Miss Queenie Hennessey” book by Rachel Joyce during Libraries Week.
The week-long celebrations at Penketh will culminate with a “meet your community and borrow a book day” on Saturday, October 14.
Regular story time and rhyme time events at Warrington and Penketh Library will take on a special theme to celebrate Libraries Week, with a reading of the Luna Loves Library Day children’s book.
There will also be a range of craft activities hosted at libraries during the week. Lymm Library will offer spooky bookmark making, while “love your library” colouring sheets will be available at Warrington Library all week.
Anyone who fancies themselves as Sherlock Holmes do a bit of sleuthing at Warrington Library on Wednesday October 11 by trying to solve the Wenlock Murder Mystery at 6.30pm.
There will also be a special coffee morning at Padgate Library on Thursday, October 12 from 10am-12noon, offering an opportunity for library users to take a trip down memory lane.
Wendy, added: “Libraries Week provides the perfect opportunity for residents who might not use their library regularly to find out all the great things that are happening.
“From play and learning for children and families, a wealth of books and online resources, along with free internet access to information about managing health and wellbeing, finding a job or starting a business – there’s something for everyone in all our libraries.” For specific times of the Ask a Librarian sessions and all other activities, visit www.livewirewarrington.co.uk/events
