Probus bowlers dodge the showers

MIXED weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of members of Padgate Probus Club when they held their annual bowling competition.
The competition has been running annually since 1981 and this year was organised by social secretary Sam Sheldon.
Two trophies were at stake – the Vin Ball Memorial Cup for the men and the Ladies Bowling Cup.
Teams of two played each other and after each game the partners were changed to ensure a fair competition.
There was some fine play and good, friendly banter.
A newcomer to Probus, Michael Bromwich, with little bowling experience but a keen eye, played some remarkable ends. But not to be outdone was Mavis Thompson, who occasionally bounced the woods down the green to achieve notably high scores.
After refreshments, the winners were revealed by president John Stubbings, as Michael Bromwich and Mavis Thompson.
