LYMM Rugby Union Club are all set to kick off their 8th season at Level 5 in the RFU leagues after a successful pre-season.

Adam Fletcher remains as head coach, supported by Andrew Davies as backs coach and John Millington as forwards coach. Adam Bray continues as 1st XV Captain and Jordan Widdrington as Club Captain.

The club has a new Chairman of Rugby, Stuart Wraith taking over from James Ferguson. Former 1st team Captain and club stalwart, David Newton, is the new Honorary Club President for the next two seasons.

Tomorrow (Sat)  Lymm will travel to level 5, Weston-Super-Mare RFC, for a pre-season warm up match. Then on Saturday 19th August they go to New Brighton RFC for a 3 way tournament including Trafford Metrovick. On Saturday 26th August they are away in the Cheshire Vase against either Stockport or Northwich.

What was known as National 3 North has now been re named Northern Premier League and Lymm will open their account away to Yorkshire side, Morley on Saturday, 2nd September. This is a tough league with the majority of the clubs paying their players. Lymm are strictly amateur, developing players through their excellent Mini and Junior section. However, Lymm is well respected for its rugby culture on and off the park and with exiting development plans in progress, they do attract players who move into the area. In the close season a number of new players have registered with the club.

Gav Woods: One of Cheshire’s outstanding front row forwards for the past decade has moved into the area and comes to Lymm after long stints with Chester, Macclesfield, Stockport and Caldy. Gav has multiple Cheshire caps and two England Counties caps against Spain and Canada. “We are delighted to welcome Gav to Lymm. To have a player of Gav’s pedigree in a Lymm shirt is huge”, commented head coach Fletcher. “His playing ability and experience will bring welcome added value to the young Lymm playing squad”.

Scott Redfern: Fly-half Scott comes to Lymm after a couple of seasons playing at Stockport. Scott also had stints at Sale FC and Manchester. He has also represented Lancashire 20’s, North 20’s and Scottish Exiles 20’s. Coach, Fletcher commented, “We believe Scott will add a lot of quality to an already strong back-line, we are very happy to have Scott at Lymm.”

James Robinson: James joins Lymm after playing rugby for Central Queensland in Australia. Before playing abroad, James was a regular member of Tyldesley RUFC 1stXV squad and represented Lancashire U20’s and England Mixed Touch Rugby. Coach Fletcher commented. “James is very welcome to Lymm and has been impressive in pre season training so far, with great skills and a good positive attitude, I believe he will add a lot of competition to our back-line.”

Other important registrations are the return to the club of 2nd row Ben Rees and Back Row forward, Andy Kerr. Ben has been out of the game for a few seasons due to chronic knee problems but is ready to give rugby another shot. Ex Ballymena player Andy re joins after a year out travelling the world. Both will add serious value to the squad.

Training is at the club starting at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday,
