Food bank facing a crisis

WARRINGTON’s Food Bank is facing a crisis – with demand for help from needy families soaring.

Up to 72 people have been visiting the bank in recent weeks in need of food, compared with the normal figure of 35-40.

Food Bank organisers are blaming delays caused by the introduction of Universal Credit and low wages.

The food bank is one of Mayor of Warrington Les Morgan’s chosen charities and he is attending the Food Bank warehouse at Tanning Court on Tuesday to see the scale of the problem for himself and raise awareness of the facility.

Food Bank spokeswoman Trish Cockayne said: “We are really in dire straits at the moment with empty shelves and increased need.

Anyone who wants to help can contact Trish on 01925 751646 or 07977 244870.
