Yellows draw in latest pre-season game

WARRINGTON Town surrendered a two goal advantage as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Skelmersdale in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Yellows once again fielded a number of trialists as boss Paul Carden looks to finalise his squad ahead of the Evo-Stik League season opener against Rushall Olympic on August 12.

They led 2-0 at half time, new striker Tony Gray scoring the rebound after Sean Williams’ penalty was saved, and that lead was doubled by Town’s left-back triallist.

But Skelmersdale, who humbled Warrington 4-0 in the league fixture at the same ground last season on their way to being relegated, fought back in the second half to earn a credible 2-2 draw.

The fixture had been hastily arranged at the weekend after the Yellows’ planned friendly at home to National League North side Southport was called off due to the visiting team’s plans to send a youth side.

Warrington are next in friendly action away at Trafford on Friday night.
