30 homes approved in station goods yard

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for more than 30 homes on a disused railway goods yard – despite protests from nearby residents.
The development at Padgate Station, off Green Lane, Padgate will consist of six detached houses, 12 semi-detached houses, four terraced properties and nine apartments in a three-storey block.
Some of the properties will be offered under a shared-ownership scheme and others at “affordable” rent.
Fifteen residents opposed the scheme on the grounds of highway safety, loss of privacy and damage to ecology and loss of access to the west bound platform of the station.
Twenty years ago, an earlier plan to build 27 flats on the site was thrown out.
