Victory for Burtonwood after enthralling encounter

BURTONWOOD Bridge took on the representative team Great Britain Teachers in an enthralling encounter at Fir Tree Lane in a game played at a pace that tested the Bridge boys.
In spite of a bright start by the home team, GB Teachers were the first to strike taking a 6-0 lead.
Winger Oli Morrissey went over in the right hand corner to open Bridge’s account and then the home side  took the lead when Craig Holcroft went over and Jos  Woods converted to make the score 10-6.
A try from Jacob Almond, again converted by Woods took the score to 16-6. But the Teachers took advantage of some Burtonwood indiscipline to take the score to 16-10 and then dragged themselves back into the game with a converted try.
But a try from Will Weir, converted by Greg Peters gave Burtonwood a 22-16 half-time lead.
Scotty Birchwood crashed through to secure a 10-point lead. But the Teachers came back in a 10-minute spell that brought the score to 26 apiece.
Pressure mounted but Almer Salvilla burrowed his way through the defenders for Bridge to regain the lead.
The scoring was rounded off by prop forward Alex Newton, who was smart enough to follow up on the inside of the irrepressible Salvilla, after he had made another line break. Newton was left with no-one to beat and placed the ball down under the black dot to complete the Burtonwood try account for the day. Jos Woods converted to make the final score Burtonwood 36 GB Teachers 26.
