Knife-point robberies dismissed as “fake news”

POLICE have dismissed reports of a number of knife-point robberies in Lymm’s Ridgeway Grundy Park as rumours.
The reports have been circulating on some social media platforms and state that there have been a number of robberies at knife-point in the popular park.
But in fact, police have received no reports of incidents of this nature in recent weeks.
A police spokesperson said: “We would like to reassure residents that this is NOT the case – we have not received any reports of this nature over the last few weeks.
“There was one instance in early April where two youths were approached by three other youths and had their coats and mobile phone stolen.  No threats, violence or weapons were used in this incident and CID are currently investigating this.
“We believe that this is the incident that is being referred to and whilst serious, we believe this to be an isolated incident and as stated, no further reports of this nature have been received.
“We would like to reassure residents that the park continues to get regularly patrolled by local officers and if anyone sees anything suspicious they should contact us on 101, or 999 if an emergency.”
