Village war memorial to be illuminated

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a lighting scheme to highlight the 97-year-old war memorial at Rixton-with-Glazebrook, near Warrington.
Members of the borough council’s  development management committee approved the illumination of the memorial following an application by the Hollinfare Shine the Light group, who represent the local community and wish to improve the visual amenity of the area and commemorate the local men who fell in the two wars.  The proposal is for ground level lighting.
The memorial bears the inscription “Remember those men of Hollinfare who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914-1918” on its east elevation. Twelve names are listed.
On the west elevation there are a further three names of men who fell in World War 2.
Planning officers said the memorial  adds significantly to the historic interest of the village in an area where there are a number of listed and locally listed buildings, including the Grade 2 listed St Helen’s Church.

  1. Well done to all involves although I have no idea where that is as I’ve never heard of Hollinfare until this but it’s great that planning permission to illuminate it has been given 😀
It would be lovely if all the other memorials/cenotaphs in and around Warrington were illuminated too as they would look lovely and also it would be a show of respect to all the fallen. Maybe we should all push for it 😀
