VIDEO: ELECTION fever broke out in Warrington as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn paid a whistlestop visit to the town.

He was greeted by supporters at Warrington South Hub in Hood Lane North where he he gave a rousing and passionate speech to gathered crowd, emphasising the main points of his policies for the forthcoming general election.

Mr. Corbyn had been contacted by a local resident Laura Howard before his visit and he sat down to speak with the 26-year old Orford resident.

They spoke for some time with Mr Corbyn listening intently to Laura and at one stage holding her hand. Suffering from ill health she told Mr Corbyn that she doesn’t want to die without seeing a Labour government “back in charge.” She offered her help and support in any way she could. (see letter below)

After listening to Laura it was campaigning on the doorstep and the MP for Islington North met with local residents to discuss the upcoming election, policies and generally meet and greet the people.

The Labour Candidate to fight the seat will be chosen next week. After his brief visit it was off to Crewe for the next stage of his quick fire tour.

Laura’s letter read:
Dear Mr Corbyn
I’m a member of your party, my name is Laura, I’m 26. I have lived in Warrington, Orford to be specific, nearly all my life. I left to attend university and managed to get my masters degree in human osteology and funerary archaeology.

I moved home to save up for my PhD and was in talks to attend either Birmingham or Exeter university when I began to have health problems. It’s been 3 years now and instead of getting on with my life I’m being cared for by my dad, sleep 14 hours a day, and have to take 130mg morphine, amongst other medication, a day to keep me going. And the latest diagnosis I have been given is that it’s likely I have motor Neurone disease.

Although I’m still hoping this is not the case I can’t ignore the fact that my specialist has told me he’s convinced I have a condition that will in all likelihood kill me within 2 to 5 years. The reason I’ve gotten in touch is because as a labour member I don’t want to die having never seen a labour government back in charge. Therefore if there is anything at all I can do to help, be it calling people, or admin I’d be very grateful to assist you.

Yours
Laura Howard MSc

  1. Lovely to see the leader of the Labour Party in Warrington. I hope the council get behind him now and fight for real Labour in the general election.

  2. I see a number of Warrington Labour councillors pictured there Sue. But I don’t see the local Labour MP Helen Jones? Why is that? Where was she? Afraid of being upstaged? Filling in her expenses forms maybe?

    • Dear Billy – you clearly have OCD issues on MP Helen Jones – are you not aware due to political protocol an MP from the North can’t engage with with events in the South – unless they are officially invited.

      • Dear ‘Wiliam Wolves’ I haven’t seen a post from anyone under this name before? Hmmmmm, obviously you are more familiar with the protocols for North and South. Very very familiar it would appear to be.  So was Helen invited and she just didn’t bother to turn up with her Leader? She has form for not turning up to things don’t forget? HS2, Satnma Planning meeting. Maybe you could confirm?

        • Everyone who needs to know, knows the protocols – if you don’t you shouldn’t be commenting on what you have little knowledge and clealry just some kind of OCD on Helen Jones. I have no idea what Helen gets invited to and I have no desire to either. Not sure what relevance there is that I haven’t commented before – just getting a bit tired of your OCD!

          • It’s just that I’ve never seen you post anything before? Ever? Well not under this name anyway. And you do seem to be getting very emotional in your defense of Helen if you don’t mind me saying. A big thanks BTW for clarifying the protocols behind visits: “Everyone who needs to know, knows the protocols”. It’s not actually you is it Helen? Or Mike? Or Chris for that matter? Or even one of her staff perhaps? It would go some way to explain your outburst.

  3. WARRINGTON SOUTH..MAYOR FAISAL RASHID SURELY CAN WIN..MORE WELL KNOWN. PUBLIC SERVICES..EVEN THOUGH LABOUR SHALL LOSE ON UK DUE TO STUPID LOSE MOUTH OFF FOCUS POLICIES OF JEREMY CORBYN. .TORIES THEN SHALL RUN RIOTS IN UK. .ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS TOTALLY UNDERSTAND PLEASE. .WE ARE DISAPPOINTED DISGUSTED WITH JEREMY CORBYN. .BITTER SAD TRUTH..COME ON WARRINGTON. .FAISAL RASHID PLEASE..NO DISRESPECT TO OTHERS

    • Dr VK Bansal.
Who are the people you describe as “WE” who you say are disappointed with Jeremy Corbyn?
Are these people the backstabbing, hypocritical members of the Labour party who cannot accept the views of the majority who have twice democratically elected Jeremy Corbyn as their leader?
These disloyal members should resign from the Labour Party and join a political party more in tune with their own beliefs – there is no longer any place in the Labour Party for self-serving Blairite Tories.

  4. People of Warrington, I implore you. This country is desperate for a Labour government. Get out there, mobilise, knock on every door and make the case. This could be a once in a generation opportunity. Jeremy Corbyn will make a fantastic PM. #JC4PM

  5. yes I agree …leave bickering behind … look towards the greater good …. JC is well liked by many and it is who he is that is compelling new members to join and vote Labour …. I will be voting Labour because I care …. never have I found that same sentiment in a politician before …and I am getting on a bit …..
