Firefighters tackle large blaze near Fiddlers Ferry

THICK black smoke seen in the sky near Warrington’s Fiddlers Ferry Power Station involved 15 fire engines attending the scene of a major blaze on an industrial estate at nearby Widnes.

Cheshire fire brigade who are tackling the blaze, are warning local residents to keep their windows closed as a precaution and for people to avoid the area on Tan House Lane.

When they arrived they were confronted with a large blaze involving a warehouse and an amount of plastic and cardboard, causing a huge plume of black smoke that can be seen for miles.

A total of 15 fire engines and an aerial appliance attended at the scene. The site was fully evacuated while crews tackled the blaze with hose reels and main water jets.

Roads surrounding the incident have been closed and people are being advised to stay away.

Also please keep doors and windows shut if you live nearby.

Crews are likely to be there for some time.
