Everyone has a story – Let Mother Mountain capture yours

AFTER many years of producing films for the BBC and working with older people, Lymm based Jude Limb has combined her skills to launch a new business helping people capture memories.

Jude, founder of Mother Mountain Ltd, believes passionately that everyone has a story, that story is worth telling and that it needs telling before these precious memories fade as people begin to enter retirement, supported living, nursing or hospice care.

Many of her clients say that they regret not capturing and celebrating the lives on their loved ones when they were still around.

“I learnt a great deal of wisdom sitting at the feet of older relatives, even now I am fascinated by the stories my own father tells of WW2 and this was partly the spur for setting up the company” said Jude.

“His memory for the things of his childhood is still sharp but he struggles with such ill health that I spent time recording some of his most precious memories while he is still able to tell them.”

Unlike paper biographies, a video profile allows you to record the real essence of a person, through their words, voice, gestures, expressions, spirit and personality and therefore they are much more poignant.

“The benefits of capturing your family history are immense added Jude. “I want my own grandchildren and great grandchildren (yet unborn) to know what a wonderful and inspirational man my own father was and now I have that ‘ memory capture’ record of him, I can show them the legacy of what sort of person he was and how he influenced my life.”

Jude has a history of film making and also working with older people. She worked for the BBC for many years as a Director and Producer and then joined the voluntary sector to work as an Advocate for disadvantaged people, eventually becoming Chief Executive of a local Age Concern.

“I wanted to bring those two skill sets together to make sure that everyone’s story has a chance of being told. I know through my work with Age Concern that storytelling has an enormously therapeutic effect on people, it helps stimulate their minds and gives them a sense of ‘ reconnection’ to the world, it also gives them a chance to reflect on their own contribution to society, whether that be as a brain surgeon or a fantastic mother who raised children she is proud of. No matter what your life circumstances are, you matter and your impact on the world matters- we are here to celebrate that!”
