Mayor searching for people who “make a difference”

THE Mayor of Warrington is bringing his year in office to an end in style – by celebrating local people who make a real difference to others.
Cllr Faisal Rashid is now inviting nominations for “The Mayoral Annual Celebration and Achievement Awards 2017”, which take place on May 19 at St Elphin’s Parish Church.
The event will build on the success of last year’s Mayor’s Achievement Awards at the Town Hall which celebrated Warrington’s “wonderful volunteers” and “community champions”.
There are no specific categories, with the Mayor hoping to reward as many heroes and heroines as possible. He is urging local people to nominate anyone who is making a difference to lives.
Part of the Mayor’s send-off to mark a successful 12 months, the event will see awards presented to a wide range of people –  from those who support charitable causes or work with young people, to those who carry out important community work or provide support in times of need.
Cllr Rashid said: “The past year has shown me the wonderful generosity and community spirit that exists here in Warrington. That’s why I can’t think of a better way of bringing my year in office to a close than thanking all those selfless people who make Warrington such a wonderful place to live.
“Please help us celebrate in style by nominating someone special within your community, workplace or family. And join us for the event to help us make it an evening to remember.”
As well as presenting awards to many deserving individuals, the Mayor will also give his end-of-year speech during the event and present a short video featuring some of the highlights of his year.
The event – which will also include live entertainment and refreshments, is free to attend and everyone is welcome.
The Mayor’s Annual Celebration and Achievement Awards take place at St Elphin’s Parish Church, Church Street, on Friday May 19 from 7.30pm-9.30pm.
