Two study days at St Werburgh’s old and new churches

AFTER the success of their first venture, Warburton Parish Church Council Group are organising two study days at St Werburgh’s old and new churches.

At the Old Church, subjects covered will include Medieval Vernacular Architecture, Pilgrimage, and the Artifacts of Folk Magic. There will also be a display of herbs commonly used in medieval times with an expert on hand to discuss their uses.

At the New Church, there will be talks on A Millennium of Monasticism, a look at the Victorian Way of Death, and a study of Warburton Village School (1873 – 1957) which will be also the subject of a small exhibition.

Both study days will end with a musical contribution.

Each day will cost £20.00 for a day or £35.00 for both days. Surplus funds will be shared between the Churches Conservation Trust and the St Werburgh’s Church maintenance fund.

The study days are at the 11th Century Old Church of St Werburgh on Saturday May 6, and the other at the 19th Century New Church on Saturday May 20.
