Police probe fire in second floor flat


POLICE are investigating a fire which caused extensive damage in a second floor flat at Warrington last night.
Four fire engines, from Warrington, Birchwood, Penketh and Eccles were sent to the blaze in Heather Close, Birchwood, at around 11.15pm
The hydraulic platform from Stockton Heath was also involved in the operation.
Smoke was billowing from a second floor window when crews arrived at the scene.
Neighbours were evacuated from other flats but nobody was trapped.
Two hose reel jets and covering jets were used to tackle the blaze and a ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the property. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots.
Police attended the incident, which was handed over to them for investigation after the fire was extinguished.
