MP calls for more transparency over future of town’s hospital

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has called for more transparency from health bosses about any proposals to relocate the town’s hospital south of the Manchester Ship Canal.
She has expressed concern over claims that proposals to move the hospital were outlined at a meeting of the borough council’s health overview and scrutiny committee – and that a suggestion was made that a site in the south of the borough would be suitable.
Warrington and Halton Hospital Trust chief executive Mel Pickup and Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group clinical chief officer Dr Andrew Davies were at the meeting.
Ms Pickup has since said parts of the existing hospital in Lovely Lane are more than 100 years old and it is time to consider a new state-of-the-art hospital.
But she says no specific location or area of the borough has been considered as yet.
Ms Jones said: “Four councillors who were at the meeting have since confirmed a site south of the Ship Canal was suggested.
“I am increasingly concerned at the lack of transparency shown by health bodies in Warrington, in relation to proposals to move the current Warrington Hospital.
“Moving the hospital to a location south of the Ship Canal would have an enormous impact in the most deprived areas in my constituency, and would have a profound effect on wards such as Birchwood and Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft.
“A plan to move Warrington Hospital was not included in the recent Sustainability and Transformation Plan, and it is fair to ask why it wasn’t mentioned and how long these proposals have been under discussion.
“Four Councillors from the committee have confirmed a plan to move Warrington Hospital was discussed. As a result, criticism has come from a number of NHS bureaucrats, yet my message is simple.
“MP’s are meant to stand up for their constituents and that is exactly what I will continue to do.”

  1. Maybe they are just fed up with your constant sniping and blustering Helen. You’re fast becoming known as the MP who just opposes everything and who offers no solutions. Zilch. Didly squat. By the way, in your last press release on this topic you said you had requested an immediate meeting with hospital management. Have you met yet?

  2. Billy Wires…..Clearly you don’t like her lol….but in all fairness to her had she not initially gone to the press with her concerns and comments (the ones where most said she was just spouting nonsense about a new hospital etc when now it seems that she was right after all) then many of us would not have known about it and perhaps all the subsequent information and comments by hospital ‘bosses’ which are now coming out would not have come to light either.

Seems she’s the only one concerned and showing any sort of interest at all from the council/councillors/MP quarters though as not one other elected representative from any party has made any comment whatsoever regarding it all.

    Odd that……

  3. What I find odd ‘Dizzy’ is your sudden interest in defending MP Helen Jones? Please feel free to share any previous comments that you may have made concerning political stories such as this, especially that refer to Helen Jones. And then we can talk. Otherwise I shall have to add your name to growing list of online identities all allegedly created by Helen’s back office team. Fair enough? 😉

  4. Well I certainly wasn’t expecting a reply like that Billy Wires. Crikey talk about being touchy and over defensive lol.
I only said in this instance it appears she was right with her information and it’s good that it’s all now coming out in the open. Gawd….how did you read my reply ?
I must admit despite your rant and finger pointing at me I did actually find your response rather funny especially the bit where you accuse me of being part of her back office team. People who know me will find that hillarious too.
I don’t even know the woman (other than knowing she’s the MP blah blah), I’ve never met her in my life and I don’t even live in her constituency and I’m NOT a Labour supporter either. In fact I don’t support ANY party and I have no association with any. I hate local party politics and cross party bickering too….it’s all rather pathetic to be honest.
Anyway I don’t know why I’m bothering to reply to you as you have made it quite clear that I have to pass certain criteria or search for, and share, any previous posts I might have made concerning political stories before you say ‘we can talk’ again. Gawd are you for real? ha ha.
Well I’ve been a member on here for over 10 years so no way am I going to sit here all weekend trying to find all the posts I might have made under news stories or on the forum over that time span…feel free to search for them yourself though and maybe once found you can post them all for me so I can have a read back. Fair enough ??
Have fun looking…… and have a nice day and try to relax and chill out a bit 😉

    • Which one do you mean re me re-reading my post Billy….my first one on my second one?
I just re-read them both though and in my first one I only put that ‘you clearly don’t like her’ followed by a ‘lol’ ( ‘lol’ to show I was having a laugh and finding your post funny) and the rest of mine was pretty straight forward to understand and in no way political blah boring blah.
My second reply to you was a little sarky I guess BUT ONLY because you went completely OTT at me for some reason and accusing me of all sorts re my first post.
PS I’m not touch or defensive really and I’m still sat here chuckling at your responses to little old me and wondering why I seem to get on your nerves so much 😉
Are you a councilor by any chance ? I guess you must be into politics in some way though…maybe just a die hard party supporter ??

  5. Perhaps you can find out whether Helen has managed to arrange this meeting yet?. Or whether there was any intention to actually have a meeting anyway?

    • I’ve no idea how to find out and I don’t have much spare time anyway due to work and my family so what spare time I do have I certainly don’t want to spend questioning or chasing up a blummin’ MP lol.
Maybe you could try asking her or maybe whoever else would be involved in the meeting and let us know your findings and you could ask more specific questions as you seem to be more clued up on it all 😀
It would be interesting to know if she actually has or hasn’t yet … and if she hasn’t then that’s NOT good and she needs to get a move on !
