THE Grappenhall based Warrington Amateur Radio Club is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year.

To mark the occasion, they are having an open day on Saturday April 1st at their headquarters at Grappenhall Community Centre from 10am till 4pm.

The club has been going strong since 1947 and has a current membership of over 50 people. They have a well-equipped ‘Radio Shack’ and meeting room based within the Grappenhall Community Centre.

During the open day they will be welcoming interested members of the public to see Amateur Radio in operation.

The Mayor of Warrington, Councillor Faisal Rashid, has agreed to attend at 1pm to help celebrate this landmark in the Club’s long history.

Members of the public will be able to see the latest Amateur Radio equipment being operated and talk to club members about their fascinating hobby.

Warrington Amateur Radio Club has been an active part of the local community for many years, indeed members helped in the construction of the Grappenhall Community Centre.

The Club has trained and supported many individuals and members of local organisations throughout the past 70 years and hopes to continue this tradition into the future.

The open day takes place at Grappenhall Community Centre, Bellhouse Lane, Grappenhall, Warrington, WA4 2SG.
