Updated: M6 re-opened after lorry fire causes traffic chaos

0

THREE Lanes of the M6 Northbound at Warrington are now re-opened following a lorry fire which caused traffic chaos across the town this morning.

The fire resulted in the closure of the sliproad from the A50 at Grappenhall leading to Thelwall Viaduct at around 7am.

The north bound carriageway was closed while emergency services tackled the blaze, causing lengthy traffic delays.

The problems were exacerbated by a second incident – a lorry breaking down in the centre lane of the M6 soundbound carriageway.

Traffic tailed back on to the M56 and there were major hold-ups across Warrington as traffic left the motorway or sought alternative routes.  Roads on the south of the borough were gridlocked and journeys that normally took 10-15 minutes were taking up to an hour.
