A WARRINGTON woman returned home from a 20-minute shopping trip to find she had been locked out of her house by burglars – who were still inside.
She shouted for help and was joined by a neighbour – but on getting into the house they found the intruders had fled via the back door, taking a large quantity of jewellery.
The burglary was at about 5.30pm on Thursday, November 24 at a house in High Gates Close, Bewsey.
Police appealed for help from the public today.
The woman had popped out to a local convenience store with her two children.
When they returned she found the front door had been secured from the inside using the security chain.
She heard voices inside – and shouted for help.
PC Laura Hall, who is investigating the offence, said: “We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident and I am keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have any information.
“As part of the investigation I am also keen to trace a man who was seen acting suspiciously near to the scene of the incident shortly before the crime took place.
“The man is described as white, mid-twenties, approximately 5ft 9 inches tall, and of skinny build. The man was wearing a dark coloured hoody, dark jeans and had a distinctive Scouse accent.”
Police say a vehicle – a silver coloured estate van with a roof rack – was seen entering and leaving the Bewsey area around the time of the offence.
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 733 of 24/11/2016. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
