MP urges constituents to get help with energy bills

COLDER weather is on the way – and MP Helen Jones is urging her constituents to ensure they are taking advantage of free help and support with energy bills.
The Warrington North MP (pictured)  says it is really important for residents to be prepared for winter.
She said: “I want everyone in Warrington North to understand what help is available for them, and for their family and friends. Being energy efficient and keeping bills under control is vital so I’d encourage people to get in touch with their energy supplier to find out what support is on offer.
“There are a number of simple steps that every constituent should take to make sure they’re doing all they can to keep their bills down and their home warm.”
Ms Jones said people should make sure they are on the best gas and electricity tariff and also get a smart meter – putting an end to estimated bills.
They should take advantage of the extra support available for vulnerable customers – which can come from their energy suppliers. They should also get advice from the British Gas Energy Trust – an independent charitable trust that offers advice and support for people who are struggling with their household bills.
Finally they should keep their homes warm, working and safe – gas appliances should be checked every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer who will be able to detect a range of problems from boiler faults to gas leaks and carbon monoxide poisoning.
