Housing plan approved – despite objections

PROPOSALS for a development of 10 houses on the site of a former garden centre at Culcheth have been given the green light by borough council planning chiefs.
The development in Church Lane will consist of two and three-bedroomed properties.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council and borough councillor Matt Smith opposed the development, along with five local residents.
They claimed there was inadequate parking provision, that the site would be overdeveloped and that there were existing traffic problems due to the proximity of a busy garage and an adjacent restaurant.
There were also concerns over loss of sunlight at nearby houses.
Previous applications for housing on the site have been turned down – even after an appeal – but planning officers said the new proposals havd addressed the issues which led to the earlier refusals. They recommended the scheme be approved.
