Runners get set to tackle the Warrington Way!

AN estimated 200 runners are expected to take on Warrington’s toughest race – the 40 mile Warrington Way, organised by local running club, Lymm Runners, on Saturday, November 12.

Starting at the Cross in Lymm at 7.30am, runners follow a 40 mile route circumnavigating the town, mostly on footpaths, tracks and country lanes. They pass through or near Rixton, Birchwood, Winwick, Burtonwood, Bold, Penketh, Moore, Appleton, Hatton, and High Legh, returning to finish where they started in Lymm.

Anyone out and about in the village that afternoon will see plenty of tired but happy runners completing the race, with the first finishers expected around 12.30pm.

This year’s race is also the final event in the prestigious national Runfurther ultramarathon race series of 12 ultra races all over England, and it could be the deciding factor in which elite male and female athletes win the Runfurther championship.

Race director, Kieran Walshe said: “This is a fantastic event, with great support from Lymm Runners who organise and marshal the race. For some of those entering, it’s the first time they’ve run more than a marathon distance, and it’s their introduction to ultrarunning. We hope people will turn out in the village to cheer on the runners at the start and as they finish!”
