Library campaigners urge public to support Borrow a Book Day

0

ORGANISERS of the campaign to Save Warrington’s Libraries are inviting members of the public to a “Borrow-A-Book day” at all libraries across town this Saturday.(Oct 15)

Talks by award-winning authors and childrens’ activities are planned for the day when organisers of the campaign are calling on everyone to pop along to their local library and borrow a book – or more than one.

It aims to be a simple and fun way for everyone to show their support for our threatened libraries, and it’s taking place at every library in town.

Events and activities are planned at several of the libraries, including:

• A talk by award-winning author and director Helen Walsh at around 11am in Central Library. Helen is herself hosting an event in town that evening.
• A talk by award-winning local author Gill Hoffs at around 11am in Stockton Heath library
• Activities at Stockton Heath, Lymm, Culcheth and Central library from 11am to 1pm
• Opportunities to find out about the campaign, feed in to the consultation and sign the petition at Penketh, Stockton Heath, Lymm, Culcheth and Central library from 11am to 1pm.

To make it easy to join in, all details of opening time, location of libraries and what’s planned is available at www.SaveWarringtonsLibraries.org/borrow-a-book-day. The page also has details of how to join the library for those that are not yet members.

The event takes place just days before Livewire’s consultation to close the town’s library network closes, and amid rising opposition to the plans amongst the public and within the Council.

Dina Kingsnorth-Baird, one of the local residents campaigning to save the libraries, said: “Despite Livewire’s watering down and cutting of support for our libraries over several years, we have felt the phenomenal strength of support for them across the town over the past few weeks. This Saturday, pop along to your library, have a browse, find yourself a great book to read, and show your support for our treasured libraries.”
