AVIATION students at Warrington Collegiate were inspired when a former student who has landed her dream job called  into the Winwick Road campus.

Two years ago, Maeghan Kerr was starting her final year on the Aviation Operations Extended Diploma Level 3 at the College.

Now, the 20-year-old from Newton-le-Willows works at Manchester Airport as part of the security crew.
Meg spoke to current students about her job – which sees her do everything from bringing passengers into the airport, frisking them, searching their bags, and checking their passports and boarding passes. She also spoke about her experience in the industry and how her time at the College helped.

She said: “I’ve been at Manchester Airport for six months now – I love it. Doing the Aviation course here at Warrington Collegiate definitely helped me, because it gave me an insight into how the airport runs and how important security is.

“It also helped me to understand how to do my job and when I went for my interview, the panel were really impressed with what I knew and that’s purely down to the College course – I wouldn’t have been able to get the job without what I learned here. I love my job – it’s amazing.”

Diane Lewis, Aviation Lecturer, said: “It’s always great to see how our former students are getting on in the industry and to hear just how much Meg is enjoying her time at Manchester Airport, is fantastic.

“It was a great benefit to our current Aviation students to hear about how Meg’s time here at the College has helped her to succeed. It gave them a valuable insight into the industry and will surely inspire them to try their hardest so that they too can follow in her footsteps and go on to great things.”

Students can find out more about the range of courses available at Warrington Collegiate at our Open Evening on Tuesday 11th October 5-8pm. Register online to avoid the queues on the night.
