Knowles-Jones leads the way for Warrington

HARRIET Knowles-Jones led the way for Warrington Athletic Club’s senior women’s team as they finished a creditable 14th place in the Northern Athletics Road Relay Championships.
Knowles-Jones ran the fastest time in the race, held at Sports City, Manchester, completing the third of four legs in 16 minutes 30 seconds. Team-mates Katie Lowery, Victoria Ramsbottom and Alysha Goddard all represent the club at Under-20s level.
This capped an impressive day for the Warrington athletes, with the Under-17 women’s relay – Lauren Ferris, Elizabeth Wright and Lauren Goddard – finishing fourth overall. The B-team of Melissa Boyer, Chloe Mason and Isabelle Trevithick finished 12th.
And the club’s under-15 boys also came home in seventh place, with Jordan Jones, Joe Buckley and Lucas Hayes completing the three legs in just under 30 minutes. Jones ran the sixth overall fastest leg in nine minutes, 17 seconds.
The Under-15 girls – Siobhan Gregory, Lucia Meloni and Olivia Doodson came home in 16th place.
Earlier in the day, Ashley Nemits ran the second fastest time on the second leg of the Under-13s girls race in 11 minutes 18 seconds while Rebecca Nixon was 10th fastest on the third leg in 11 mins 41 as the team finished in 11th place. Orla Gregory ran the first leg in an impressive 11 mins 31 seconds.
Warrington B-team under-13 girls Isobel Houghton, Maisie Bell and Eva Ferris also ran a solid relay on a rain-soaked course around the Etihad Stadium to come home in 26th place.
For the boys, Rhys Hopkins led the way with a first leg of 11 minutes 30, with Reece Connell and Finlay Smith achieving 22th place for the Under-13 A-team. Danny Hartland, Gareth McClory and William Bainbridge brought the B-team home in 25th place with a total time of 37 minutes, 11 seconds.
