Warrington South Labour send congratulations to Jeremy Corbyn

WARRINGTON South Labour Party has sent a message of congratulations to Jeremy Corbyn on his landslide victory in the Labour Party leadership contest.
Mr Corbyn claimed 61.8 per cent of the vote in the leadership election with challenger Owen Smith – a bigger margin than in his first victory last year.
More than half-a-million party members took part in the election and the result was:
Jeremy Corbyn 313,209; Owen Smith 193,229.
Most leading figures in the Labour movement in Warrington had backed Mr Smith, including Warrington North MP Helen Jones and former Warrington South candidate Nick Bent.
But Steve Wright (pictured), chairman of Warrington South Constituency Labour Party issued the following statement:
“On behalf of Warrington South Constituency Labour Party I would like to congratulate Jeremy Corbyn on being re-elected leader of the party.  Equally, I would like to recognise the sincerity and commitment of Owen Smith during what has been a long and hard fought campaign.
“This summer’s leadership election has shown that there are deeply held convictions amongst the supporters of both candidates, but it was settled by a democratic process – unlike the Tory leadership! – and it is now time for our members to show unity and friendship.  We will do everything we can to promote a positive spirit in the party here in Warrington.
“There is strong engagement with Labour politics locally, demonstrated by our growth to over 1,000 full members in Warrington South.
“Our next All Member Meeting will take place at Bold Street Methodist Church Hall, Palmyra Square North, WA1 1JQ, on Friday, October 7 at 7.30pm, when we look forward to welcoming members old and new.”

  1. Washing other peoples dirty linen in public, i.e. the swipe at the Tories, does not befit a serious statement from any political party. By the way, well done Mr Corbyn. Now let’s see some action instead of bickering. Irony lives.

  2. Warrington South doing what it does best, backing a losing candidate, they did it for the last two elections and have the gall to accuse Corbyn of being unelectable.
