AN uncle and nephew team are embarking on a quest to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Cancer Research with a day at Golden Square (Saturday 8 October) to raise awareness of their campaign.
David Ash and Chris Riley took on the challenge after a close friend was affected by cancer and have made their mission even tougher by aiming to raise £1 for every foot they climb of Africa’s highest mountain.
If successful, the Team One Step expedition will see them raising a massive £19,341, which they have been making progress towards with a climb of Mount Snowden.
It was during this trip that they first wore the florescent skirts that have become the team’s trademark, and which will be helping them to stand out from the crowd when they appear at Golden Square.
Dave said: “We are climbing mountains and fighting cancer by fundraising to make a difference to in our community.
“We do this to change and improve the future for those around us the best way we know how.
“The generous hospitality of the Golden Square will give us a literally golden opportunity to really engage on a personal level with the community who’s future we’re trying to improve.”
Golden Square’s centre director, Ian Cox, added: “We are delighted to be able to support Team One Step in their efforts to raise money for Cancer Research.
“The climb itself will be tough and this, together with the huge fundraising target they have set, makes what Dave and Chris are doing something to really admire.
“We look forward to welcoming them to Golden Square and hope their pink tutus put smiles on the faces of shoppers.”
