A BRAZILIAN-themed school sports festival is to take place in Warrington to celebrate the Paralympics.
The event will be in Victoria Park on Friday, September 16, starting at 11am.
It will offer primary school children the opportunity to experience a variety of new sports.
“Braziliant” will give young people the opportunity to experience sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, football, tennis, cycling and athletics.
The event will be supported by staff and volunteers from The Warrington Wolves Foundation, LiveWire, Warrington Disability Partnership and principal sponsors Gladstone Brookes.
Braziliant is the first official event of this year’s Warrington Festival which runs from September 16 to October 2.
The festival will bring a range of events and activities that celebrate sports, culture and entertainment to the town including two headline music events, one which supports the legacy of Viola Beach through providing a showcase for local talent, a half marathon and 10K race, a film festival and a triathlon event.
Building on Team GB’s success at this year’s Olympic Games, Braziliant will allow children to showcase their talents in a fun and supportive environment while trying some of the exclusive sports of the Paralympics.
The Paralympics starts on September 7 with 526 medal events across 22 sports and with the extensive sports club network in Warrington, it is hoped that the Braziliant event will encourage more young people with additional needs to sustain their participation beyond the school environment.
