Thief returns stolen goods – and apologises to victim

AN opportunist thief who stole a pair of trainers in Warrington has returned the property – and apologised to the victim.
The offender, a woman, today returned the trainers to Warrington Police Station, together with their cost in cash, and a letter of apology.
The theft took place on Sunday, August 28 when a young man purchased a pair of trainers from Sports Direct in Warrington.
He then popped into McDonalds for a meal – and while he was momentarily away from his seat the trainers were stolen.
But the offender was identified by her work clothes on CCTV and police visited her at her place of work.
Because she had no previous convictions, it was decided to dispose of the matter by restorative justice and this was agreed by the victim’s mother.
