Flying the flag for the Merchant Navy

WARRINGTON Town Hall will be flying the Red Ensign tomorrow (Saturday) to mark Merchant Navy Day.
The borough council is joining in national celebrations to honour the brave men and women who kept the country supplied during both World Wars.
Since 2000, Merchant Navy Day on September 3 has celebrated those who served in the wars as well as modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for 95 per cent of the UK’s imports, including half the food we eat.
The Red Ensign, affectionately known as the Red Duster, is the official flag of the nation’s Merchant Navy fleet.
