Signings boost as Yellows prepare for baptism of fire

WARRINGTON Town have received a major boost ahead of the new season which kicks off on Saturday, with midfielder Gerard Kinsella signing a two year deal at the club.

Management team Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith have also signed a 12 month deal following on from the success of the title winning season, which now sees the Yellows competing at their highest ever level, in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Kinsella returned to Warrington Town in the title run in last season and has previously been at Everton and Fleetwood Town, while Mellish and Smith helped the club complete a record breaking season.

Club Chairman Toby Macormac is delighted to have secured the signings ahead of a “baptism of fire” in the Evo-Stik Premier league with a tough home opener against Stourbridge on Saturday, followed by the long trip up North to Spennymoor next Tuesday evening.

Macormac believes, Stourbridge and Spennymoor will both be in the running for the play-offs, along with Blyth Spartans and Workington Town.

“Pre-season has gone very well with plenty of games under our belt but it is certainly going to be a tough start for us against two of the sides I expect to see challenging for the play-offs,” he said.

“Following on from our title success the play-offs have got to be our target for the forthcoming season.

“We have got quite a few home games in the early part of the season so it is important to try and get a good start.”

Meanwhile a familiar face has returned to Cantilever Park with one of the club’s FA Cup heroes, full-back Matt Doughty returning to join the coaching staff.

Doughty is adamant his playing days are over, with the FA Cup victory over Exeter City one of the highlights of his career.
