Granny and granddaughter have heads shaved for charity

A brave care worker from Warrington and her 14-year-old granddaughter both had their heads shaved to help raise over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Trish Bennett and her granddaughter Monique said goodbye to their respective blonde and brunette tresses at the Irish club in Warrington.

As well as the shave, entertainment included a bouncy castle, cakes and sweets. Together they raised £1,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Trish, 51, works for local home care provider Carewatch Warrington, which looks after vulnerable adults in the Warrington area.

She said: “I decided to do the head shave as tribute to my family and friends who have passed away with cancer and for family who are in remission from cancer.

“My granddaughter wanted to do it last year but her mum wouldn’t let her. This time she thought Monique was old enough to make her own decision.

“A good friend, Kelly Delooze Smith, has just passed her Year 3 hairdressing course at college and agreed to shave our hair for us!”

Macmillan Cancer Support is dedicated to reaching and improving the lives of those living with cancer and aims to inspire millions of others to do the same. Raising funds for charity is central to Carewatch, which has a history of supporting good causes as well as providing for the local community. The company will be match funding donations that Patricia receives up to the total of £500.

Ria Lyon, Care Manager at Carewatch Warrington, adds: “We are incredibly proud of Trish and Monique for their bravery. Delivering care and support services ourselves, we understand the work and research related charities do and how vital it is to help them continue. This is why we do our utmost to raise funds at every available opportunity.”

Trish has been with Carewatch for 18 months and loves the work. She adds: “My clients are lovely. I worked in several jobs but needed something different. I’m glad I did care work and I’m hoping I continue to do this for some time.”

  1. Well done to them both and that’s a huge amount to raise 😀 It must take a lot of guts to have your head shaved and even more guts when you are only 14 years old. Well done again, you should be very proud of yourselves 😀
